Position Summary
This position supports faculty and researchers by aiding them in the design, development, and adaptation of their research applications for use on research computing systems.
Essential Tasks
The application specialist assistant will work closely with researchers on short and long term projects that require algorithm research; coding; parallelization of code; profiling, optimization, and benchmarking of code; software application support; use of research computing systems and the research environment; documentation and writing of instructional material; instructional workshops; and research into research systems enhancements.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Special Skills Required
Requires knowledge of operating systems such as UNIX, Mac OS X, and Windows; of applications such as IDL, Mathematica, and Matlab; of programming languages such as C, C++, Fortran, and Java; of parallel coding tools and techniques; of code profiling, optimization, and benchmarking tools; of middleware applications such as Condor and SGE; of grid applications and architectures; and excellent interpersonal and writing skills.
